Top FIFA officials Hawit, Napout arrested, 'opposing' extradition to the US

ZurichSwitzerlandThe two top football officials arrested in Zurich on Thursday in the latest raids targeting FIFA are opposing extradition to the United States, where they are wanted over corruption allegations, Switzerland said.

"The two FIFA officials arrested in Zurich on the instructions of the Federal Office of Justice FOJ were today also given hearings by the Zurich cantonal police on the US arrest requests. They are opposing their extradition to the USA," a statement from the Swiss justice ministry (FOJ) said.

The FOJ confirmed that those arrested were Alfredo Hawit, president of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football and Juan Angel Napout, president of the South American Football Confederation.
