MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun slammed 106 off 156 balls in a low scoring Mumbai Cricket Association ( MCA) Under - 16 Payyade Trophy match at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana. “We didn’t get a good start and we desperately were looking for someone to score. Arjun today played his natural game. He played his strokes nicely and never once let the pressure get to him. We kept losing wickets from one end but Arjun took up the responsibility and batted the team out of a hole. It was a chance-less innings and as this tournament is a selection trial, it must have boosted his confidence greatly,” Satam told The Indian Express.
The Payyade Trophy tournament acts as a selection trial for U-16 cricketers in Mumbai.
In May this year, Pakistan bowling legend Wasim Akram gave bowling tips and classes to Arjun Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium.
Akram is the bowling coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR).
"I met Arjun last summer in England, he played an exhibition game there. He was bowling and I was standing at mid on. And I think he got Brian Lara out. He is just 15 years old, he is very keen, he is a left-arm medium pacer. I spoke to him about his action and about his swing and also about his fitness which is very very crucial. He is very eager and that is a good thing,” Akram said.
